Help / FAQ
Q: How do I create a conversation?
A: To create a new conversation, click the New Topic button at the top of the page. From here you can select a room and then a subroom to post your comments. For instance, if you wanted to talk about a sports team, you might go to the Gym room, look for the Sports subroom, and choose it by clicking the words “Post Here.”
After you choose the main place to post, you have the option of cross-listing your new conversation in some other part of THINQon. If you wanted to talk about the impact of television broadcasting on your favorite team, you could cross-list into the Television room.
After you've decided decide where your post will show up on the site, you can type any title you’d like. Then the post is all yours to do with whatever you want.
Q: How do I respond to a topic or a post?
A: You can respond to either the whole conversation or a particular post. If you want to respond to the conversation, click the Reply to Topic button at the bottom of any post, or just click the Reply button at the top of the page. If you prefer to respond to a particular post, click the Reply to Post button on that post. If you respond to a post, your post will be placed below the one by the person you are trying to engage with.
Q: What if I want to create a subtopic of an already existing conversation?
A: In order to start a subtopic that branches off of a conversation you are reading, click the New Subtopic button at the top of the page. You will have the option to cross-list your conversation in a second location.
Q: What is an Alias?
A: One of the options available in your profile is to create an Alias. Aliases are available on THINQon for posts that might merit anonymity. For instance, “My partner is awful in bed” might be a topic you wouldn‘t want to appear under your real name.
Q: How do I add media to my post?
A: You can insert pictures in your posts or add videos (from YouTube, Dailymotion, and MTV). While you're writing a post, just click the picture icon or video icon. For pictures, you will be prompted to upload a file from your computer. For videos, copy the video URL or embed code from the video site and paste it in the box.
You can also refer to a book, movie, or CD. Click the Books, Movies, and Music button when you are writing a post. This will open a new window where you can search Amazon.com for the item you want. Selecting an item will place a clickable image of it at the bottom of your post.
Q: What if I want to refer to another post that will add insight to what I’m writing?
A: While writing a post, you can create links to other posts. Use the upper half of your web browser to navigate around the site and find related conversations. When you find the post you want to refer to, look at its red bookmark, where you'll find a button that says Refer to This Post. Clicking it will insert a link to that post.
Q: What if I want to change something I’ve written after it has already been posted?
A: At the bottom of each of your posts, you will find either an Edit button or a Postscript button. Posts can always be edited during the first five minutes after they are created, and they continue to be editable until somebody has responded. After this, the original post cannot be changed, but you can add a Postscript if you are struck by a new idea or want to clarify a comment you made.
Q: What if I want to rate a topic or post?
A: There are a couple ways to rate someone else’s post. On the toolbar at the bottom of a post you can either select a star value (out of 5) or give the post a tag (like Essential or Brilliant). Your star ratings are not visible to other users, but others can see if you have tagged a post.
From this same toolbar you can Bookmark a post that you find particularly fascinating or thought-provoking, or one that you simply want to return to later. Bookmarks show up in your room and on your profile.
You can also follow to a topic. Click the Follow Topic button at the top of the page, and you will be updated on all new posts in the discussion.
Q: How do I contact THINQon with further questions?
A: One way is to click the Feedback link at the top of the page. We encourage you to use this to give us feedback about the website or to report any problems.
