I could meet girls every day. I mean I do, and I can continue to, unto infinity. I mean guys are fine, but they only come in three varieties: assholes, makemelaughs, and nice but boring. But girls are other beings altogether, they are complex, they are crazy, they are puzzles to be filled in and they always force mistakes and do overs and don't you hate it when you lose a piece? You'll find it eventually.

When I was a toddler I thought all cats were girls and all dogs were guys. It holds up. Cats own this world and we are their foot servants. Not only that but no two cats are the same, live with them long enough and learn their ticks, learn their motivations, learn their purr and learn their cries.

I don't understand bigots and chauvinists, wifebeaters and rapists. I only wonder how I can adore women even more. For their smile that is only given to me I'll be fine for a week. They are like my fuel tanks and without them I would fall asleep and not care to awake. I only feel bad that my base analogies can not further create them into goddesses.

They're fun to look at, fun to talk to, fun to play with, and fun to figure out. It's like that post somewhere about learning a nation, only a nation can't love you back as much as a really pretty girl. And maybe there is a reason countries are only ever referred to as motherlands (well, isn't Germany the fatherland?) Because they're the better lovers and we are the unworthy foot soldiers.

It's their eyes that get me, just like those unblinking cats. That they have such power over those two almost pulsing gems to make me quiver and shake and fall and run to the nearest flower stand for a harvest bouquet. But pull myself together because there are these games to play first and I know the rules and how to break them and how to win and the secret is the eyes and the way we learn to talk with them and I'm pretty sure it's inside those eyes that their beauty exists, where they are true, and if a girl doesn't have them mine are already searching for the next. And I may or may not be master of the puppy dog's.
Funny, Patrick! You should watch The Big Sleep, where Humphry Bogart walks in a world populated by pretty women who adore him. It's a fun movie.

As for cats and dogs...

You forgot one type of guy, and that's your friends. When someone is your friend it makes them a different kind.
Besides that I mostly agree, of course. But why do you think then those chauvinists exist? Why do men, who do love to look at women, not want women in the workplace? Not want women around them and prefer to live in a world populated by martians? I'm sadly not convinced that these two lines of thought are incompatible, but in fact might be close relatives.

For us, I think we find men boring because most men are something we know, are known quantities, while women are these strange unknown puzzles who reveal a different world to us. But I do also really like talking to men, as I'm sure you do. It's probably a similar reason women like to talk to us - I'm kidding of course. Why do women like to talk to us?

A quick side-note on what you said Patrick, "And maybe there is a reason countries are only ever referred to as motherlands (well, isn't Germany the fatherland?)"

It's interesting to compare the cultural difference between countries which are referred to as being feminine and masculine, and people's relation to their country. Note that the US is actually "Uncle Sam." Russia is a motherland, and the French symbol is a pretty woman (often depicted with exposed breasts).

I think women enjoy talking to men because they enjoy their mesmerizing power over them, as Patrick so well describes. What they say matter little as long as they can keep men looking as if bewitched by their eyes. Another reason is that they enjoy the comforting talk, they can trust men most of the time. Men being dogs- good and faithful animals, women feel they can confide, complain and get their sympathy. It is always more difficult to trust women on that level, as they are catty, you never know when they’ll scratch you. Will there be foul play? Will this information go further, turn against me? I actually know some men who behaved like cats on that area, but I think that statistically speaking there is no comparison. They can be trusted much more than women.
