Since joining THINQon several months ago, I've so enjoyed the chance to practice my writing skills, the give-and take on issues, the generally supportive tone of the contributors.
I've also gotten hopelessly lost at times in trying to navigate the site, finding either no directions for how get get from point A to point B, or situations where the site didn't seem to respond to obvious commands, done as correctly as I knew how. That's what beta's for, so I assume that those people who are the administrators of the site would appreciate such feedback.
I'm therefore going to suggest a new topic called, "A User's Guide to THINQon." It would be a set of directions helping the reader to navigate the site, a list of FAQs, and anything else that members reading this might consider relevant. So I mean to kick this off, but hope that other members will add subjects that seem to them might be useful, especially to new users of THINQon.
Part 1 could be simply "how to." How to publish a Post, how to use the locations, how to respond to other members, especially to those whose remarks have already been responded to by other writers.
Part 2 could be a list of frequently asked questions.
Part 3 could be an index of current topics, automatically updated as new ones are added.
Part 4 could be a guide to what to do if users get into trouble, including where to go when sections of the site don't seem to be working properly.
That's as far as I've gotten. I wrote to THINQon HQ some time ago, suggesting something like this, and haven't heard anything back. But I thought it might better, anyway, if more members added to my ideas, so that it had something of a group "feel" to it.
I've found that in a pinch, one can just throw up one's questions onto a post, or write to individual members for help, and help will be forthcoming. But this shouldn't be necessary on a well-run site.
Those are my beginning suggestions. I'm curious as to whether other members agree on the utility of such a guide, and to see if others have additional ideas. For example, is there anything worth noting about the history of the site or its founders.
This is where I walk into another room, and listen.
