Best Food You've Ever Eaten
Last night at dinner I had the opportunity to discuss the question "What's your favorite food, or the best food you've ever eaten".  I found that this was a really difficult question to answer.  Even if you lean towards foods you know you enjoy, what's the archetype of that food, the finest example that you can remember having eaten?

When I thought about it my answer was "a really good tomato", which lead to a memory of eating tomato slices topped with gorgonzola cheese at a restaurant that sadly, no longer exists.

Can anyone else point to a singular instance of a food or dish that they've eaten that they can truly say is the best they've ever experienced?
It wasn't Gorgonzola; it was fresh mozzarella.  With basil.  And it was yummy.
I would like to suggest that this thread be taken in courses, as I have many favorite foods that are in different catagories and really cannot be compaired.  Several years ago My older daughter was married and held the reception in Ventosa Vinyards banquet hall in Geneva NY and they served just about the best Prime Rib I've ever had.  When I was in college we would go to a place called 'Dutch Haven', east of Lancaster Pa. on Rt. 30,  for the best wet bottom 'Shoo-Fly Pie' I've ever had.  Lately I've been having sliced tomatos based on what a friend of mine said.  I will slice them, salt, garlic powder, Olive oil, and a good dose of grated parmesan cheese, cut up, makes a good snack.  I also like S.O.S. and lately we have made it with ground beef and cream of mushroom soup, over toast is very good.  So I would say pick a course, appetizer, salad, meat, pasta, desert, or what ever else you can think of and post it here.
Just to throw a wrench in the works, and see the reaction, I also like Sardines on Saltine crackers.  Come-on, let's hear a big yuck from all the unsophisticated palates out there.
