I use the Nuva Ring. Its hormonal contraceptive, so you may still not like it, but the dose is delivered continuously, so your hormone levels don't spike. My blood pressure is lower and I'm much happier using it. I love that I only have to think about it twice monthly, and I never notice that it is there. My friend uses an IUD and sings its praises, but like you, I'm uncomfortable with the idea of an implant.
In terms of the adjustment period, I'm not sure what you mean. Any hormonal BC takes 2 weeks or so to become effective. And you can stop taking them at any time, or switch if you don't like the side effects. Usually if you experience nausea or another "adjustment" response for more than a few weeks after beginning a new kind of BC, you should talk to your doctor about trying something different. There are a ton of options.
