Do you believe in love at first sight?
I think often about the concept of love at first sight - the idea that a person could be going about their daily routine and randomly catch eyes with a complete stranger, fall in love and start a life together.  The concept seems outlandish to me - how can one fall in love with someone they’ve never even exchanged words with?

Couples that claim to have fallen in love at first sight have purely mistaken lust for love.  They are attracted to each other at a level that they have never been attracted to another before, but it is still just attracted and not love.  If the relationship lasts it is simply lust that turns to love over time as the couple gets to know one another.  In my opinion, thinking otherwise is sophomoric.

What do you think?
I agree completely.

If they remain together it's also not necessarily lust that turns to love but maybe lust that turns into a story and then people hold on to the story. They like so much their love at first sight story that habit and a good story are strong enough to keep them together. As we all know people saying you are good together, and an image of a good couple is as strong a connection as anything between the couple.
Talk about is our generation more cynical (see post ).

I don't necessarily agree, but I'll add another possbility for such couples that last - they made up the "love at first site" story after being together for a while.
It all depends how much you think you can see of a person immediately. As in the topic of first impressions you notice something about people immediately. You might not know whether they snore at night and how easy it will be to live together, but feeling something precise about the character and how much that character attracts you seems obvious. Could you even imagine love not at first sight?

For love you need lust, and the first time your eyes meet is a good indication, but you also see a deeper connection which can be made. It can fail for many reasons, but it also shows a possibility, which when it works, is told as love at first sight.
