Fashion and the erotic (nsfw)
I'm quite a fan of Garance Dore, and was impressed to see she's once again pushing the envelope on women's fashion photography (these first few pictures are probably not safe for work):

Maybe it's time for a straw poll among the women here. How do you react to such photos? Why do we inevitably rush to buy clothes which look like this (even when the photos are barely about the clothes)?

Though I must say brilliant underpants in that fourth photo. I like the crinkles.
Like most of the pictures in womens' magazines :-). I've wondered about this, because I would like to say just that there's something nice in women affirming that women can be really beautiful. Too bad it is a very particular look and beautiful means sexy. It's still enough to spark a trail of thinking about being desirable, which in and of itself is quite strong.

Of course, it might be more useful to affirm women are *already* beautiful. I don't think any woman looks at photos like these and feels an intense affirmation of her beauty in the present moment. It's much more, shall we say, anticipation.
Hi,

First, perhaps you should mention the specific photos  as your link changes daily:

I thought I'd bring a guy's perspective:   Hot pictures!

Which is the guy's version of the problem you are talking about. It is never about the clothes. Well, maybe if you're gay (and a man).
I remember being in an Armani exhibition at the Guggenheim and seeing the dressed up dolls. I was thinking of how men supposedly undress women when looking at them (I am sadly without that gift), but that maybe gay guys unwoman the dress?

(as a sidenote I'll mention a funny conversation I remember, when talking about the possibility of going to a fashion show. My girlfriend remarked that at the moment it was the summer shows showing women in bathing suits and not the interesting shows showing the elaborate high fashion dresses. I still remember that hilarious remark of hers.)
