Garage Garage Laboratory
THINQon is a platform for a more intelligent web. It aims to replace the ruling paradigm of the web – that of sharing and gathering information – with a sharing and achieving of understanding. Instead of the Q&A model it offers an experience. A platform for discovery of ideas, people, and yourself.     Continue >
Laboratory
I'm new to THINQon, and I'm impressed by the variety of discussion here - it seems there are topics of interest for almost anyone.  Yet, there is one gaping hole - where is the science room?  There are a lot of scattered topics of scientific relevance, but no one obvious room to find them.

As an experimentalist (a caveat), I'm not only interested in the theoretical side of science, but also the practical side.  Do I post in the garage?  I think a new room, the "Laboratory" would be a better place.  Further, discussion in such a room would not necessarily be limited to science, but perhaps could encompass all of experimentalism, including engineering and  discussions about innovating to solve life's little problems (e.g. organizing power cords).

I realize that I should send this as feedback if I really want to get such a room added, but since I am new I thought I should get the opinions of you more experienced users.  Do you think there should be a laboratory?  Is it common practice to add new rooms?
Great idea Ell.
But it might be better as a new subroom of Study, which is the room for study related things, (e.g. Academia, Science, often also cross-posted elsewhere). It would be a great place for discussions on scientific experiments, results, and all the other things you mentioned.
Garage is not bad as I think it's where most scientists did their first experiments, but it might be unintuitive for non-scientists.
Thanks for the feedback John!  To me, a Study suggests a place where one retires to think and plan, but not necessarily to build or experiment, so it fits theoretical science but not necessarily experimental, so I still think a separate Laboratory is warranted. I agree with you that in the absence of a laboratory I might first check the study for this kind of discussion.
I agree with you both, Ell and John, regarding the recommendation of inclusion of "Laboratory" in its own right. Whereas the Panda Rooms of: Testimonial, Garage, Study, Safari, Newsroom, Library, and especially Kitchen all have overlaying or intersecting properties with Laboratory they don't address the scientific fields with a clear directness. If it can not fit in the Panda-paradigm as a discrete and independent room it should be fairly easy to be a sub-room of Study (as John suggested). You have my vote in favor of the idea. But don't hold back on anything you want to share. I would expect to read something scientific more in the Study room than in the Garage. Hunting new contributions are done in several ways here; by Rooms is just one (I use that method about 10% of the time I search on THINQon).

Regardless, welcome to THINQon Ell. I look forward to your comments and articles. An aspect of THINQon that inspires me is that it is the antithesis of Las Vegas in that what happens here does'nt stay here; it goes on to live on in anyone who wishes to absorb and interact with the information. Be sure to read the site information found in "About - Main- Help" and the like.

I am familiar with Fremont CA. My step father and adopted brother taught at the University at Hayward; I attended Ohlone Community College thirty years ago (before Ohlone had its own campus).
