Here's a remarkable video of (the amazing, amazing) Meryl Streep discussing her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, which she refers to as "Lear for Girls."
starting around 2:00: "I always called this Lear for Girls, I said it secretly....It kind of is, because it's concerned with the end game. How power diminishes... how we let go of things."
When she said this, I was incredibly moved -- because she is, of course, an amazing actress. It was only afterwards I realized that I don't think I've seen
any woman give an interview recently with such deep authority, such power.
