Musicians, please help me!
I need some help. I'm making a "piano table" from a 4' X 8' slab of oak that I cut, the salvaged casting and stings from a piano, 1/2" glass with keys sandblasted into the bottom, and white marble. All the wood will be stained piano black, and the strings and the marble will be ivory white. The casting is so heavy that a cantalevered structure will allow the table to have only two legs, the casting and a narrow marble post.

I plan to carve single roses into the marble and delicately tint them, and there will be some musical notation. My problem is that I have no idea what notes to use. The "music" has to fit into the total scheme. I'm sure you see my problem. It will be a dining table.

Could someone save me and compose a few notes for me? I'll send you a picture in return.
It sounds like a lovely table.

I am not a musician, but I would suggest you make the notes as personal as possible. For instance, do you know anything about where the piano came from, about its past? Was it used to singing along for show tunes, or old ballads, or classical pieces? Perhaps it always had to play hymns and is really looking forward to a little rock 'n' roll ?  And what music for dinner -- that is a difficult one. Is copyright an issue?

Another option is to try and do it as a commission piece, asking the person involved for a suggestion of music. This I think would be lovely for the right person.

I'll look forward to hearing what you choose!

In response to Penelope Rose
Thanks Penelope for the suggestions.  I appreciate them, but I've decided not to include the musical notes into the design.  I've been carving the marble roses the last few days.  I'll send you pictures of the finished or progressing piece if you like.  Thanks again.
