Past relationships
Just wondering, do others keep things from past relationships (letters, photos etc) and if so what is your relation to these objects, and how do your current partners react?
I will never be able to get rid of two pictures of my ex boyfriend that I keep in my wallet...after him, I have dated two/three people, but I really was never able to take these out of my wallet!!!!
I have a lot of old emails. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I would delete it, but there's no reason to just delete it now -- it seems so arbitrary. Also, I honestly don't know whether deleting would be a good or bad idea. I went back maybe two years ago and read some old letters and it was very strange -- I felt like I was seeing the situation clearly for the first time, and really understood what the problems were. So in this sense even though it would be nice to hit delete and be done with it, it's maybe useful to keep around until I'm distant enough to play anthropologist.
I usually choose to throw away all the pictures and gifts of my ex-boyfriends so that there is no reminder of the past. I also consider myself very much changed from having been in and out a relationship, in some ways I don’t like to remember myself with the ex, so I prefer to think that it was another me that was with him too (so it’s much easier to be indifferent about it). I had a big dilemma  about my last ex- boyfriend. First, I liked him very much so I think that I kept our pictures for about a year till I threw them.  Second, he had excellent taste in gifts, so I was attached to the objects for their own worth, not only the sentimental one (well they would have been in the bin in that case). So probably my subconscious did the work of losing them one after the other, but I must say it took a few years till they were all lost.

Anyway, no regrets, I recommend the throwing.
