Occupy the Internet
Cinema Room General Pierre Etaix
THINQon is a platform for a more intelligent web. It aims to replace the ruling paradigm of the web – that of sharing and gathering information – with a sharing and achieving of understanding. Instead of the Q&A model it offers an experience. A platform for discovery of ideas, people, and yourself.     Continue >
Pierre Etaix
I had completely forgotten who was Pierre Etaix. Because of stupid legal entanglements (copyright issues, I think), his films were invisible for about 20 years.
We can now finally see or review the work of this clown so tender and refined, too long remained in the shadows, and who has its place alongside the greatest (Chaplin, Tati, Keaton ...).
When I reviewed "Le grand amour", it was a bit like a "Proust's madeleine":  the distant past came back to me in memory, this evening of my childhood when I saw for the first time on television this film, we loved it my parents and me, and I remember it like yesterday and yet more than 20 years have passed since ...
I discovered also, of course, films that I had never seen such the wonderful "Yoyo", certainly his masterpiece.
I have infinite gratitude for the great artists clowns. They make us forget our troubles large or small, even better, they allow us to laugh at them.
I love that word "clown", that the great Chaplin himself claimed, saying:" I am but one thing, and one thing only - and that is a clown. It places me on a higher plane than any politician."

I do not know if laughter is the essence of Man, but it is certainly for me a triumph of mind over pain and death, a relief for the soul. Laugh at our helplessness is to transform it into a strength. The clowns are  benefactors and doctors of the soul...
A little video to give an idea of poetic humor of this great artist...

L'intégrale Pierre Etaix : Le soupirant / Yoyo / Tant qu'on a la sante / Le grand amour / Pays de co

It's a funny movie, I saw it a little while ago. There was a hilarious place where he falls in love with his 18 years old secretary (he's about 40) and laments on his being too old. Then his imagination throws him back to ten years earlier when he was fresh, good looking and sitting at the same desk. You see him ringing for his secretary and in comes a very cute 8 years old with a pen and paper ready to take notes. It seems like an obvious joke, but I haven't seen it before and it is so well done - his disappointed face looking at the 8 years old is extremely expressive.
Unfortunately I couldn't find this passage on youtube, but David put the amazon link for the DVD. I agree that this unknown artist should be rediscovered.
