Presents
What were some of the best (or most memorable) presents you ever received?
I'll be the first to reply.

I fondly remember some gifts which are awkward bordering on embarrasing, when they show you something surprising about the feelings of another person.

For instance once year in school there was a boy in my class who I considered by far the most interesting, but we never noticed each other or spoke. On the second to last day before summer he gave me a plastic keychain which he had won in an arcade game. It had a picture on it of something I liked, which he must have been very observant to notice.

That was the whole interaction -- he came up to me in the hall and gave me the keychain and said he won this and thought I would like it because of X, and I said thank you.

For the romantics among you, that was it -- we never spoke a word before or since.
On my 14th birthday I woke up and looked out my window to see my two best friends running around the lawn sticking smiley faces all over the yard, with signs that spelled out "Happy Birthday".  What a wonderful surprise it was!  We had a great breakfast and then took the train downtown (we felt so grown up!) for a fun day of hanging out in the big city.

One of my other favorite gifts was a necklace with a small doll on it that was presented to me by my 4 adorable exchange student friends.  I still have the necklace and think of them fondly when I wear it.
For me presents are strangely associated with children’s illness. Every time I got one of those smallpox etc... I could ask for a present. It might be also the reason that I got some of them twice or 3 times when you are supposed to get them just once. I was always very excited by the present, for no reason as I would always ask for the same thing- a ring (preferably with a heart or flower in the middle). Once, when I was about 5, my sister was fed up to get me rings and she got me beautiful hairpins with hearts on them, they were my favorites and it took me more than 3 years to loose them (quite a record, I still loose these after a week nowadays).
