Laura, Howdy.
Dysthymia, A latinate name for maybe 'its not quite all right' versus maybe, what feels good, even what is good?. And how to get there, which is how I read your question.
Some where in this filem of distinctions, presents addiction. Addiction importantly plays havoc with the pleasure principle, witch explains a lot, but not enough. Addiction wrecks reason, logic and rationality but they don't quite bannish addiction either. Power is addictive, we see that now, opium, the great teacher about addiction, of course, nicotine, alcohol, meth, gadgets, tv, anything that might distract us from "its not quit right is it?".
Perhaps, Laura, as a suggestion, nothing proverbial, make some thing right, and only so according to your lights. Straighten or shift askew the door mat.
tell an old man that he is a fool, wrap your leg around your husbands leg and pull it out from under him if that's just the thing to do. Accept the fun that comes to you, offer what you can. Any time, all times, end times, makes no difference. Its lonesome sometimes, sure. That's addiction.
Cheers, Tom
P.S. Thanks for asking, its a pleasure.
