Why does beauty make us feel good? Does it?

I just posted a response to Althea's post relating beauty and good, post, in the topic of What do you get from beauty, and got stuck with this question. I thought I'd start a subtopic about it.
Maybe it's that what makes us feel good is beautiful.  Not classically beautiful or beautiful by everyone's definition but a beauty that connects with the  soul or the spirit  first and then moves to the eyes.
A beauty that makes you stop and think and wonder...is this beautiful?  Oh, yes.

In response to Linda OReilly
My first reaction ,Linda, was: What? But I understand what you're saying. It's an unexpected idea here, but an interesting one. Hard to know how to respond to that.
Let me then give you your inversion, sometimes. But not everything that makes us feel good we find beautiful. In fact often it is the inverse. Comfortable furniture is often ugly, while beautiful furniture is often uncomfortable and even painful.

But beyond this, look at any beautiful object around you. I'm for instance looking at a pretty lamp, or I should say the stand of the lamp. Why does it make me feel good to look at it? It's clearly its beauty, as there is no reason it should make me feel good otherwise. No?
I probably shouldn't have posted on this thread, I'll be more thoughtful in the future about where I put my observations.  That being said:The first time I saw the Bird in Space I thought to myself that finally I was seeing pure beauty.  It actually made my eyes feel good. it soothed me.  For me, it was one perfect note.  Still is.
That's the kind of beauty you mean, isn't it?  The kind that catches eye and spirit and soul all at the same time.
